Tertulia: Spanish word for “social gathering with literary or artistic overtones.”

Tertulia events are culturally-thematic immersive experiences that use the arts as a platform to bring people together across borders. Tertulia events also include a one-of-a-kind pop-up shopping experience where event participants have the opportunity to purchase unique art, crafts, and clothing that are thematically connected to the programming.

The products are also available on the Tertulia online store and sourced from around the world using fair trade principles to benefit artisans in local communities.

Mission / Vision

Tertulia has a mission with two points of focus that are inextricably linked:

  • To promote intercultural learning and understanding through immersive, culturally thematic, multi-disciplinary arts experiences

  • To empower artists and artisans through increased access to global markets.

Tertulia contributes to social and economic development in countries such as Chile, Mozambique and Haiti by stimulating the production and visibility of their arts and artisanal practices. In Boston and online, Tertulia brings together a diverse local community through arts and cultural programming to create opportunities for reflection on shared concerns about culture, identity, equity and justice.

Tertulia promotes an exchange of ideas, information, art, language and other aspects of culture in order to foster understanding, admiration and support. Tertulia has a vision to use arts and cultural programming to combat racism, homophobia, sexism, anti-immigrant hostility and xenophobia, and ultimately build a sense of global community by giving voice to diverse artistic and cultural expression.
